LevelBeacon guide

Opportunity alerts

Opportunity is the early attention layer. It can fire while LevelBeacon is still WATCHING and it does not create a setup marker or automatically justify an entry.

Opportunity is an early attention layer

The Opportunity alert is designed to bring your attention back to the chart when several useful conditions begin to align near the active blue level. It is intentionally less strict than the BULL/BEAR Setup engine.

Think of it as: “The chart has entered an area worth evaluating.” Do not translate it into “enter now.”

History eligibility

Opportunity alerts become available only after LevelBeacon has sufficient completed historical examples to make the production context eligible. If the indicator is still showing LEARNING on a newly loaded chart, do not expect normal Opportunity behavior yet.

The four confirmed Opportunity requirements

≤ 0.25 ATR

Near the active level

The confirmed closing price must be within a quarter of the indicator’s internal ATR unit from the blue level. A wick touching the line is not sufficient.

≥ 55%

Directional Strength

Bull Strength for bullish Opportunity or Bear Strength for bearish Opportunity.

2 / 3

Relevant MTF alignment

At least two of the three relevant timeframes must point in the Opportunity direction.

Role

Structure must agree

Support is required for Bullish Opportunity; resistance for Bearish Opportunity.

Yes, it can fire while the chart says WATCHING

Opportunity does not require BULL ACTIVE or BEAR ACTIVE. A common sequence is:

1WATCHING
2Price nears level
3Strength + MTF align
4Opportunity alert
5Maybe later: Setup

It can also occur independently of an already ACTIVE state because the Opportunity condition does not use the setup-state label as a prerequisite. If you already have an active setup or trade, do not treat another Opportunity as an instruction to add risk automatically.

The alert fires on a false-to-true transition

LevelBeacon does not spam an Opportunity alert on every candle while the condition remains true. It alerts once when the full condition changes from false to true. The condition must first become false before it can be armed for another occurrence.

No on-chart Opportunity marker

The production Opportunity feature is alert-only. It does not draw a BULL/BEAR marker and it does not change WATCHING to ACTIVE. If you see no marker after an Opportunity notification, that is normal.

What should a trader do after the alert?

  1. Open the chart and confirm which blue level the alert refers to.
  2. Check whether the level is acting as support or resistance as expected.
  3. Read current Bull/Bear Strength—do not assume 55% means “strong enough to enter.”
  4. Check the relevant three timeframes and note any conflict.
  5. Watch price behavior around the level and wait for your own confirmation or a stricter LevelBeacon Setup.
  6. Only then decide whether the trade fits your risk plan.

Why 55% is not an entry threshold

55% is the minimum Strength component inside the Opportunity condition. It is not a tested statement that “trades above 55% should be taken.” The threshold works together with location, role and MTF context. A stronger percentage can still be poor trade location if price is extended.

Best mental model

Opportunity = “look now.” Setup = “stricter LevelBeacon confirmation passed.” Entry = your decision after confirmation and risk evaluation.

An attention stage, not a required first signal

“Earlier” describes the job of Opportunity: asking you to look at the chart. It does not promise an alert before every Setup. The two conditions are evaluated separately. A Setup can appear without an earlier Opportunity, and an Opportunity can occur while a setup is already active.

ATR means average true range, a measure of recent price movement. The near-level test uses LevelBeacon’s internal unit; adding an unrelated ATR indicator with different settings may not reproduce it exactly.
